where to place object for vinyl cutting from corel draw??? Help please!

In the vinyl cutter.....

If you can give a little more specifics, I am sure someone can provide you with an answer. Most plotters/cutters that have Windows printers drivers will resolve the issue of where to start plotting/cutting - if it is a non-windows driver cutter, you may have to save as a generic HPGL file, then your cutter probably has some sort of conversion program to make that file a suitable format for your cutter. Most plotters have a "home" of 0,0 origin, and this is where all plots are measured from. At the very least, it may be in your cutter's manual.

right, thanks, My problem is where to place my object on the page to be cut. I know how to make it cut, just not where to place it on the page. Have heard of a guy that makes multiples of image to be cut and placing them in page and selecting one to cut. i assume there is a setting in corel 9 to change the location but just cant find it.

If you have no documentation, and can't find anything online, I would suggest making a few test cuts, by placing a small sample object on each side, then in the four corners, and test it one at a time. I assume you have a roller fed vinyl cutter, as opposed to some sort of a platten? It should translate out to a definable size paper.

So for example, assume you want to cut out an image of horse that is 3 inches wide by 5 inches tall, and you didn't want to waste any more vinyl than necassary, you would adjust your page size to say 4X6 to allow for margins, place your horse, and then print. When you select your cutter, it will probably tell you that the page size does not match, you could then change the properties of the page size to match the 4X6 dimensions.

Since most printers are at least 8 1/2 - 9 inches wide, the reality of the scenario is that your page would have to be 4 X 8 1/2, and the horse would have to be turned sideways. Now if you wanted to do multiple horses, I am sure with a littel clver adjusting, you could arrange the horses so that their feet intertwine, and still allow enough room for the cutter to make two separate images.

I hope this addresses the question you are asking. One last thing, if you aren't familiar with the publication A&E (Awards and Engraving) it is a great place to start for help and forums of this nature. They used to send complimentary copies if you requested one. There are two online articles dealing with vinyl cutting, under the "online Seminars" link.
