Cut object 1

Hi,
I'm trying to cut a map of the UK in half so I can shade the South. I've selected the map and clicked on the knife tool. I've drawn a line with the knife tool at the point I want to divide the map, but the line disappears and nothing happens. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Have you got the slice tool and the knife tool confused? The knife tool is the one undeneath the scissors tool. Tha could be one explanation (sorry if it's not that!).

There may be a better way to do this, though. You could try making a clipping path, or using the pen tool to add or subtract points to get the correct shape.
