On a daily basis, by custom desktop icons (My Computer, Trash, Folders, etc) revert back to XP default.

Why? How do I correct this?

Thanks.

What program or method did you use to customize your icons?

What are you doing when they revert back, is there any obvious pattern to this?

Any more details?

This problem occurs with and without a program running. Just customizing a stock XP interface resulted in the issue. The only thing that changes is the day. It's fine for an entire day, and leaving the machine powered on overnight - upon refreshing the desktop, all icons revert back to default.

So.. I then bought and installed Style_XP, and it still happens with that theme/style manager.

At a loss. I don't have any AT/scheduled processes running - and have turned off desktop cleanup and other such functions.

I do have XTEQ System utility installed (TweakUI on steroids), but I can't find anything in there that may be causing this nuisance.

At a guess and that's all it is, your created icons are not being saved or the icons that you replace via customization are being saved in the icon cache and replaced at every reboot or refresh.

Try clearing your icon cache after any customization. I could't find much around about your problem, perhaps someone else can help. You could try another program and see if you fair any better with that.
