Customized Search Engine

I would like to add a search engine to my site .
All the big search engines seem to offer some kind of customized search engine at varying degrees of cost and implementation, although none have what I'm looking for.

I'm trying to find something that will allow me to specify let's say 100 web sites to crawl and index. In other words sites that are directly related to my interests.

Maybe freeware??
I had a look at mnogosearch.com
It seems like a perfect match. But I had a real headache trying to install it. Documentation is lousy for newbies.

I have a preference for php, apache, mysql
