I'm new to Crystal Reports and I'd like to re-order the field data I'm drawing from the database. I have a subreport with the names of employees in the database that I'd like to order by rank. My problem is that I can't order by ID # or ascending or descending order; I have to specify the order in a particular way that is neither numerical nor alphabetical. What I've been doing is exporting the report to Word and then re-ordering the names and titles, but I'd like to do this in Crystal Reports. Can anyone help me out with this?

entropy50,

Instead of sorting in ascending or descending order - sort on the name field in Specified Order - a new tab appears allowing you to specify the custom order you wish to see the data in.

I hope this helps!

An alternative is to use a formula field that can draw on more than one dataset, provided that all of it is from one row (dataset). You can also use a prefix to get categories sorting the way you want: e.g. "a) Oranges", "b) apples", "c) bananas".
