Folks

This is my first post in this forum; I am more used to dealing with backups & computer rooms than AD, so please bear with me :)

My goal is this: to create a resource management system that will (1) allow people to book multiple resources for use on projects (2) use some sort of parent-child relationship to show how the various data centres, suites, racks, and servers link together.

I'm no expert in AD, but it strikes me that I should be able to customise the schema in some way to achieve these goals using Exchange 2003.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,
Matthew Bourne

You can amend the Windows 2003 schema by running regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll from the server in your forest that holds the Schema FSMO role.

Then run MMC console and add-in the Active Directory Schema snap-in.

If you don't know much about AD then take some advice before messing with the Schema or you could mess things up in a big way.

I'd steer well clear of messing with the AD schema to develop apps. In theory if you new it inside out you might be able to do it but there's got to be easier ways and certainly less risky ones!
