i have a weird issue that just cropped up
a customer site has been plagued since last thursday with the hydro grid going up and down
killing the UPS (a pretty serious UPS)
i think finally sunday the UPS gave up

but i think the UPS ran out of juice maybe 5 times
knocking all my gear down continuously

i now can't get the element manager can't connect remotely
actually locks up on all my computers i do mtce with when i try
well, locks up BEM
i have to end the java task to get it to close

i'm heading on site to see what the heck is going on
everything else is fine, just seems the bcm isn't accepting incoming maintenance sessions

i'm going to try the OAM and the customer LAN
but if one of them lets me in, what am i looking for?
this is a new one for me

any thoughts/ guidance is appreciated

You haven't mentioned what type of BCM system the customer has?.

A BCM 50 and 450 would probably use the IP details of 10.10.11.1 and a subnet of 255.255 255.252.

Make sure your computer uses e.g 10 10.11.2

The older BCM 200 and 400 models might have slightly different IP addresses and I recall that you might need a cross over Ethernet cable.

The BCM 200, 400 and 450 versions had a serial 9 way comm port that can be accessed to find the IP address information.

Hi firebird
sorry, yes a bcm 50
i showed up and neither lan ports responded to element manager
i decided to risk a power down and power up
it managed to bring the ports up
logs didn't show anything but all the sudden shutdowns....
and subsequent recoveries
nothing that seemed out of the ordinary
hope they get their UPS and hydro stuff fixed soon
i have successfully performed a current backup
and have a complete system on standby should it be needed
thanks again
