Anyone know how to create a workflow that will run once a day at a given time? Only way i see to start the workflow is user initiated or when an event happens like a change is made or an item is created. I just want the workflow to run once a day, process through a list of dates, if the date is equal to today then send me an email. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You can do it a couple of ways. These assume you're using SharePoint Designer for your workflow, though.

You can use the Pause Until Date or the Pause for Duration workflow actions.

But are you trying to run the workflow on an entire list of items?

Yes i am using designer, and yes i created a custom list of of contracts, when they will expire, and when i want to be notified. Think of what im doing as a tickler system, i have a column that i set a date 30 days or so in advance of the experation of the contract, i want the list to notify me of this pending experation. So i want the workflow to process the entire list looking at the tickler date once a day and email me if that date equals todays date. My problem is running the workflow without an action trigger, i need it to run like a scheduled task if you will, once a day.

Not sure if the pause until date would work as there would be many dates and that would be a big if then else to cover them all, pause for duration sounds interesting i shall look into that.

I can write the workflow to do what i want, i just need help getting it to do it when i want it done.

Thanks for your input.

Darn, I can't find the workflow I've been tweaking for a current client -- handles this "counting" scenario.

But I'll hit it after I've gotten some sleep and will see what I can pull up for you. :)
