Hi,

I'm using MSProject to manage my Small Services companie's operations. This has become especially useful for allocating resources to jobs. My employees are assigned to tasks full time/day. Therefore, they are either working on a task(job), or not. I have different groups of people that I assign to different jobs. So: cooks, cleaners, drivers.

So, my employee/resource structure looks like:

Group Name: Cooks
Resource Name: Cook 1 (Bob)
Resource Name: Cook 2 (Sharon)

Group Name: Cleaners
Resource Name: Cleaner 1 (Ann)
Resource Name: Cleaner 2 (Whitney)
Resource Name: Cleaner 3 (Steve)
and so on.....

I can show the resources table per resource name, with the tasks listed below their names. On the right hand side of the screen is a table showing total hours allocated per task. While this is great for most, I would like to see a Ghantt Chart showing that people are assigned to a task from this time to that time. Ideally, I would like to see the Ghantt chart with the name of the task insde the bubble. This will allow me to see if there are conflicts with tasks and give me a quick visual impact of who is employed on what task. Is it possible to do this? I've tried creating a custom view but I still get the table of hours in the detailed resource view, not a Ghantt chart. Any help you can provide is appreciated.

Many thanks,

Monty

Hi Monty,

I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint. The "Resource Table" that you are view I'm guessing is the Resource Usage view. It shows Resource and assignments indented underneath. The Gantt chart view is a task view.

You might get close to what you seek by showing the Gantt chart view and creating a custom Group to group first by Resource Group and then by Resource Name. You might find just a group by Resource Name works.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more details about creating custom groups.
