Custom Transparency Flattener Options -- what is this for?

and what does converting text and strokes to outlines do?

Is this for printing purposes?

...yes, for postcript output, as postscript does not support transparency effects i.e. drop shadows, opacity etc...

...you can either flatten it on your desktop or, if the rip is capable, let the rip flatten transparency found in pdf files...

... converting text and strokes to outlines? all text will become a shape rather than a font and all strokes will be shapes, rather like a box, rather than stroked lines...
