Custom ticket status in Trac

I am implementing Trac as project management, and I need a custom ticket status. I have spent the last week or so trying to implement one, but so far I have run into issues with everything I have tried. Can anyone here at least point me in the right direction? The closest I think I came was in adding a section to the trac.conf file, but then the web server would not start and I could not find any useful error messages. I am using BitNami Trac 1.0beta1.
