Hi,

I've been using the custom shortcut keys which are configured by right-clicking on an icon/shortcut, selecting properties, and setting the "shortcut key."

They were working fine until I moved all my shortcuts to a new directory a few weeks back. Now they need to be reset every day by changing the shortcut to a different key and then changing it back to the original one.

I moved them all back to the desktop and they continued to work after the computer was restarted but by the next day they all stopped working again.

Does anyone know how to correct this?

Thanks,

David

What if you deleted all those dodgy shortcuts and then created new shortcuts? Then you could create new shortcut keyboard keys, and even use your original key shortcut letter.

linney,

Thanks, that helped to repair the shortcuts on the desktop.

I haven't had luck creating new ones and placing them in directories other than the desktop yet (they stop working after a reboot).

I tried hiding them on the desktop but this causes the same problem.

I was hoping to clear my desktop of all shortcuts and icons and access everything through quicklaunch and shortcut keys.

Regards,

David

I haven't really looked in to it in depth but if I set up a shortcut key combination (ctrl + alt + left arrow) on a Shortcut in a folder (not on the Desktop). The shortcut key didn't work or have any effect on launching the desired Shortcut, but it did navigate through all the other files listed in the said folder as if I was only pressing the left arrow key.

If I changed the shortcut key to ctrl + alt + B, then that failed to do anything for the shortcut inside of the folder.

Maybe shortcut keys don't apply to Shortcuts other than those on the Desktop? I say that because if I place the same Shortcut inside a Folder on the Desktop, then ctrl + alt + B opens the Shortcut's program. I haven't rebooted yet, mind you.

Unfortunately that folder on the Desktop didn't work after a reboot either. Not much help am I?
