custom shape tool--want to add a picture

I want to fill a custom shape tool with a photo rather than a color. However, I have not been able to figure this out. I tried the paste into option, but it did not work. Can you offer any suggestion on this topic?

You have to think of it in a slightly different way... The shape tool makes an outline. So what you want to do is place the picture on a layer by itself. the grab your shape tool and before you draw anything out, hit the center button on the toolbar at the top that has the pen tool on it. What this does is make a path that is filled with nothing. Draw your shape out on the image so that it looks like you want it.

Now go to your layers palette and there is a tab labled Paths. Click on this and cilck the little menu button on the upper right corner so you get some selections. Choose Make Selection... from this list and it'll turn into the crawling ants we all know and love. Go to the Select menu, choose the Inverse and hit the Delete key on your keyboard and it will remove the image outside the shape.

Done!
