Hi Guys.

I have some charts in a workbook which use data stored in a seperate workbook and for some reason any of these which use a custom format (in this case, MMM-YY) keep losing this format aqnd regressing to the number stored rather than the slightly more helpful month and year.

Is this a known error does anyone know?

My data sheet will contain 01-01-2010, formatted as custome MMM-YY, and then I also format the axis on the chart (held in a seperate workbook)to be custom MMM-YY.

Any ideas I'd be very grateful.

When you access data, you get the VALUE, not the FORMAT. It matters not, what format your source data table date is formatted. You now have the VALUE. Go format it as you wish.

This is not at all a shortcoming or error.

Oh, OK - Thanks for such a speedy reply.

So, that implies that as long as the axis is formatted correctly in the chart it should maintain its format?

Your chart axis should maintain its format.
