Custom Authentication Integration with CE 8

I am adding CE 8 as a new reporting solution on an existing application. I am attempting to provide "seamless" integration with a custom security model. This is to prevent users from needing multiple usernames and passwords.

Is there any way to add /change user settings in CE using custom code?

I have looked in the CE object model, however I haven't been able to find the method for adding a user.
