Does anyone know of any good tutorials for creating a curved navigation bar? Please...

newphpbie,

A curved navigation bar? Please explain.

Do you mean with "curved" graphics or what?

Regards

Jakob

I normally use frames to divide my site into a nav bar and the contents frame. I've seen this done the same but instead of the nav bar frame having a straight vertical line, it has a curvy line...

I have a feeling I need to use something like Paint Shop Pro to produce the desired effects but I am yet to find a decent tutorial on how to do this....

I'm still looking... but any directions would be great...

There are two ways I can think of:

1. use Flash.

2. Use image Map to create your "curved" nav menu. You can add rollover event that change the map image according to the mouse coordinate to highlight user selection.

newphpbie,

Here's how I'd do it: Use any graphic app to draw your layout. I use CorelDraw and Paint Shop Pro.

Think : backgroud and foreground (buttons text, etc.)

Then you cut the background layout in smallet pieces so you can use it as background in table cells.

Put the background snips in their respectice cells and then add your buttons, texts etc. Then add roll overs.

I've thought of doing a tutorial -just haven't taken the time to do it yet §;O)

Does this makes sense to you at all??

Regards

dkdude: You've got it spot on...(what I wanted to know). Shame you haven't written a tutorial on it yet, if you do, or if you come accross any already out there could you post me a link please. Thanks.

mkrausnick: Thanks for the link, it's a well researched site and has some very useful tips. However, I think my first path of exploration should be along the lines of what Jakob suggested.

Thank you both for your help.

Tony

newphpbie,

Okay then ... you got me working for a few hours there!

Here's a small tutorial I wrote for you:

It's not too fancy or anything, but it should guide you in the right direction I recon §;O)

Now, you do me a favour -tell me if it works, or if I need to get into more details!!

Good Luck

Jakob

Nice tutorial.[thumbsup2] Now, can you write one using divs instead of tables? ;-)

Kevin,

Heh! Are you testing me or do you need it?

... it won't be done today, though §;O)

Cheers

Jakob

Nah, I'm getting it to work with divs. Thanks though. To my surprise it's working fine in IE but Mozilla's being difficult. I'll post a new thread if I can't beat Moz into submission.

Jakob: Thanks for that tutorial. I won't get a chance to try it out till later but I've had a quick look at it and it appears to be just what I was looking for. Simple, to the point, and adding a bit of class to a website without using a dev prog like DreamWeaver.

Thanks again for you time.

Much appriciated..
