Hello All!

I'm trying to figure out how to make curves like what are on this page without using the freehand tool (I really suck at the freehand stuff using a mouse! :)

How can you make such smooth curves like those? Also, how do they get them to look "raised?" Is that using a gradient pattern?

Thanks for any help or direction to a tutorial to learn how to do this. I've been surfing the web forever and can't find anything that really addresses what I want to do.

You mean the blue ones under the titles?
If so, I would probably draw an ellipse or rounded rectangle, and then cut off the top and left sides to get that effect.

Nothing too fancy.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm tryint to get curves like the ones that are in the banner or header, the red and grey parts.

The way I'd do it is to use a vector shape - the bezier curve tool is ideal for this, though it takes some getting used to. Once you've got an area of flat colour that's the right shape, use the magic wand to select it and then use Effects>3D Effects>Buttonise (or maybe inner bevel) to get the 3D effect.

Thanks! I'll give the bezier curve tool another try...in the past I have never gotten it to give me a smooth curve and I wondered if I was missing another way to do this.

Ok, "edit node..." Got that and I'll try it and let you know how it goes! Thanks for the tips!!!

I'll admit that bezier curves can be difficult. Depending upon which version of PSP you're using. I think they were easiest in 7.0, but higher just takes a little practice.

Set your line type to point-to-point, then draw your line from point a to point b. Click the edit button and your start and end nodes will appear. Right click the node that corresponds to the edge you want to curve and choose (if it's the start node), curve after or,(if it's the end node) curve before. You'll have a line with a curved end to it show up. Grab that with your mouse and pull it until you have the desired curve.

Once you have created your curved image, promote it to a raster layer, then apply a bevel, use a plug in or buttonize it. Any of those will produce an effect similar to what you are looking for.

Setting the width of your line and the color of it will also give you some flexibility.

Good luck!
