Hi,

Some Access databases that I download from the net gives an error message that
"Current user account doesn't have permission to convert or enable the database"
Then a list of things to check....

What is the reason? How can I change the settings?
I am using Access2002 ( I was getting the same error when I was on Access2000)

Thanks in advance

Zameer Abdulla

Hi,

It means that the databases are secured, you will need to link to the .mdw file using workgroup administrator.

hi,

every database has a workgroup file that hold account information.

By default you have the system.mdw file, you need to get hold of the .mdw files for the databases you downloaded.

See if you can get hold of these first and let me know

Then you cannot do anything with these databases because they are secured.

Hi Nowell

I am having a similar problem with '97 to 2000, but I do have the mdw file. When I convert it I get a message advising me that records cannot be read for want of a read permission. I do get one table, but not enough, apparently.

Any advice?

thanks

Hi,

I would create a new database in 2000 and import all the objects from the 97 database, making sure you re-set the owner of all the objects.

Then use workgroup administrator to create a new .mdw, reset all permissions.
Bit of task I know but it will fix all problems properly.

sometimes ugrading the .mdw file can cause problems,
