Hello

I work in the North of England

General question to give me ammo when discussing salaries

I know this is a bit vague as there can be a lot more to gaging salaries than just experience and qualifications (luck!!)

What sort of money would you expect somebody with a first class computing degree, 11 years experience in the database field (predominantly Pick and formally 2 years SQL server 2000) coupled with experience of devleping reporting packages such as Cognos
A lot of experience dealing with people and general skills at all levels of a project lifecycle (Specification/programming/testing etc)

Thanks

Also, is SQL and Cognos worth pursuing
SQL Server 2000 certainly remains one of the most popular areas to work in but I see very little with Cognos anymore

A copy also needs to take into consideration the employee's knowledge of their business, customers, and policies. It takes a long time to train an employee and losing someone that knows your business and customer base very well for a few thousand dollars doesn't make sense. Therefore, I don't think you can take salary surveys at face values. It is only one tool to assist us in determining what we should pay employees, but it's certainly not the only tool.
