Current Period issue

I'm creating a budget report using PowerPlay/Transformer 7.3. My datasource budget data extends to 12/2005. Obviously, Transformer sees 12/2005 as the current period. Is there a way to "trick" Transformer into thinking the current period is actually the current date?

I know I can manually set the current period, but I really don't want to change this on the first of ever month.

Any ideas??????

Huge thanks in advance!!

You need a 'set_current_period' datasource (iqd) in your model. Basically it would take from your calendar table the the date field, period field (same field that you use in your time dimension. Initally your impromptu query will bring through every date in your calendar table (I am assuming you have one), you need to filter the date field to equal today so that you only have one record left.

Save this as an iqd and bring it into your model. Go to the properties of all your other datasource and untick the current period box (says something like that anyway). Hopefully when you build your cube, your Current Period special category will have the period you are in.

Think that's pretty much it, but these things never work first time!

Or you can write the simplest .iqd in the world which has nothing but the current date. Add this .iqd as a datasource in Transformer and use the Set Current period checkbox.

Thanks for the replies, but it still doesn't work.

I pulled in a Date Data Source with 1 record - the current date. The problem is when I set this as the current date all my data rolls into the current month. When I include the Transaction Date as a seperate dimension, I get my data, but I lose all the YTD, PRIOR YTD, YTD GROUP functionality (becuase the Current Date box is unticked). When I name the Date Data Source field the same name as my Transaction Date, the Current Date again is set to my last record date - 12/31/2005 instead of today.

Any ideas???

So you have a number of data sources, one to set your current date. Only this data source has set current period ticked and the others do not? Your date in this current date data source needs to be called the same as the data source in your date level on your time dimension.

It also be that because the current date doesn't exist in your fact table that it can't apply any numbers to it. In could try changing your data source so it's current date -1.

Having the same problem where the budget data is loaded for the months ahead. This causes the current month to be set in future.

Wonder if there is a simple solution to this elemenatry problem.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

It's easy simply create a new datasource which contain nothing but your date column and set this to todays date.

Then in teh transformer model make sure this is the only datasource that has 'set current period' as one of it's properties.
