Hi all,

I am running SQL 2000 server, and am having some issues.

When I attempt to look at the "Current Activity", it comes
back with the following error:

"Error 1222: Lock request time out period exceeded."

Then all my apps slow down dramatically and running
reports is like pulling teeth.

If I shut down the SQL server and restart, the "Current
Activity" shows up for a while, but then locks up again
after a short period of time.

Has anyone seen this before, if so is there a fix??

Thanks

I had this problem on a previous project and it was caused by Numerous Locking and Deadlocking issues.

It turned out the the locks just kept piling up on eachother until the server basically stopped responding to any new queries. Remember when you do anything in EM it is executed as a SQL query. So viewing the Current Activity can add to an already ugly mess.

Thanks,

I also wanted to check what the LOCK_TIMEOUT was set to, so I ran the query select @@LOCK_TIMEOUT and it is coming back with the value "-1".

Is this a good setting, or should I be making it higher?

Thanks...
