Hi

I am looking at "discovering transaformer" documentation page 35 (series 7.3) to setup the currency table.
I added the currecy datasource. Now "Create a Base Currency Table", the Currency Table option from File Menu, the Use and External Currency data source checkbox is disabled.

Q1: how to setup the currency?

Q2: My data is coming from 4 different countries and has got 3 currencies. is it good way to feed all data in one currency to transformer and use currency table to represent it in user's currency?

this is first time i am using this option, hence question might sound silly.

Sudhi

The currency conversion in transformer assumes that all your loadings are done with the same currency ( let say USD ).
So all your sources ( iqd ) should use the same currency.
Then it will allow the end-users to select another currency when slicing and dicing the cube.
You have to convert your sources, first.

To setup it.
You could use one table which contains several currency rates with dates, add an iqd which fetch these rows , and in Currency conversion, tick use external table, select the fields from the new iqd.
Then mark the measures where you want to currency conversion , with the allow currency conversion in each measure properties.

Please note that if one date is missing no currency conversion will be applied for this date.
So if you have some futures dates also , you need to have a currency exchange rate for them.
Example
date Product Cost
11-nov-2004 myproduct 50 USD
12-nov-2004 myproduct 75 USD
13-nov-2004 myproduct 100 USD

Currency conversion table
Date Currency Exchange rate
11-nov-2004 EUR 1,2
13-nov-2004 EUR 1.23

Then in the cube , if user select EUR.
he will see
11-nov-2004 myproduct 60 EUR
12-nov-2004 myproduct 75 EUR ( Not converted !! )
13-nov-2004 myproduct 123 EUR

hi
many thanks for the detailed reply.

i added the currency conversion data source to model. when i selected option from file menu, the use external table option is disabled, i am not able to do anything on this.

sorry I don't get it.
Do you have already something defined in Currency conversion properties ??
Try remove Currency Table.
Then "Currency tables..." is the Use external table , still disabled ?

Note : you need to re-mark all measures for allow currency conversion , as Remove currency table clears all measures currency allowed.

There are a number of prerequistes in the cube design to enable use of external currency sources.

If you have a time dimension that doesn’t contain unique levels, you must change it to contain unique levels.

From memory I think Transformer disables use of external currency if the model contains more than one time dimension.

If categories have not been generated for the time dimension of your model, click Generate Categories from the Run menu. (Otherwise, you won't be able to see the details in the Currency Table until you create your cube.)

many thanks for your replies.

i was looking at the sample currency spreadsheet supplied by cognos. The ISO_THREE_LETTER_CODE column has got currency codes. I assume transformer uses this code to the user's locale to get the exchange rate.

Where can I get the list of these codes for all the countries? In my case I have got GBP for UK, but the example says GBR. Does this difference causes the problem? Does CURRENCY_NAME column also has got the impact on the column?

thanks in advance.

Does upfront change default currency based on the users locale or users have to change using display options when browsing on web?

how to set a user to use default currency, (user of upfront)
