As Windows is fully entrenched and DOS is on its way to history, I am curious about how many Clipper apps are in use today running as a DOS app under Windows. Does anyone have an estimate? Also, does anyone have an estimate of how many Clipper apps were in existence at the "peak" of Clipper use? Thanks.

I still have 5 major applications running, two are over 15 years old.

Thanks Lyndon. What I'm looking for are industry-wide numbers for the purpose of informing Microsoft of how many applications they have "left in the dust" by eliminating full-screen capability in Vista for applications like Clipper.

I have a few, the biggest was converted to xBase++ a few years ago... it's is in daily use by about 300 QSs throughout the UK and Ireland (a bit) looking after squillions of pounds of construction contracts. That one was primarily written to manage a construction project back in '92/94!

I *think* I have just two other external Clipper systems still running, both for oil/gas service companies managing what is now called CRM - but didn't have a name when they were written! They are about 15 years old, perhaps a little older!

Most of my current stuff is VFP though, it is about as good as Clipper was way back then!

My accounts program is still in Clipper, but I print invoices through a VFP front end to it!

Sware,

The main app I work on is all Clipper. I have hundreds of ancillary Clipper apps that support the main app. It will be minimum of (2) years before this gets replaced. My company couldn't upgrade to VISTA until then, if the full screen mode isn't supported. All of the new replacements will be NT until then.

Thanks,

Jim C.

We have several Clipper 5.2e APPs still running. 6 of them are critical 7/24. 1 critical APP has just been developed and deployed last month. They are going to stay for long Time (years). More functions are still being added to these APPs for 2 main reasons:

-- Cost.
-- Performance.

Several hundred garages throughout the UK are still running Clipper applications to run their workshops.
