I'm not sure I understand the issue. You do NOT want someone to see if others are on the phone? Have you tried removing their Subscribe Calling Search Space form the phone? I'm not sure if that removes them from seeing other phone states or if it removes just that phone so others can't see it. It's worth a try though.

I believe you'll need a presence server for that (don't know for sure. I don't have any experience with that server.

There is a feature that came about in the first Linux versions where you actually can see the state of other phones. It uses the Subscribe Calling Search Space on the phone to 'monitor' the state of the other phones on the system. Go into Enterprise Parameters> BLF in Call Lists and set it to enable. Then under each phone put a CSS, that has the PT of your phones in it, in the Subscribe Calling Search space field. Then the phones can see the state of all the other phones inside the Directory sections on the phone.

This is a what I call 'Poor Man's Presence".
