hi

is it possible to place a drill through for a cube posted on the upfront? if yes how to do this?

in the trasformer, the drill through cube path do we hav to sepcify from the remote server?

i am not able to find any Drill Through button when i browse the cube (from IE).

regards,
sudhi

to update the aboce query, Drill Through of an Impromptu report also... is it possible to do that?

thanks, sudhi

sudhi,
you need to set the drill through in transformer and then enable it using Server admin (right click on cube, select properties and then in settings tab, scroll down to drill through). Check the pdfs for a more detailed run through.

thanks lex.

in trasformer I updated the drill through such that from "cube1" i can drill through to "cube2". In PPES, i changed the Drill through properties for the folder (window and web target, enables the drill though).

when i browsed the cube, and clicked drill though, i am getting error message as "The request failed because there is no valid cube mapping to handle the request"

the documentation from cognos says "For cubes deployed to PowerPlay Enterprise Server, paths are irrelevant. Instead, the server interprets the file name as the name of a cube added to the root folder, that is, at the server level. For example, the following drill-through path is entered in Transformer:
c:\cubes\exports_feb.mdc

PowerPlay Enterprise Server identifies the target as a cube by its .mdc extension, and searches for a cube with the exact name; for example, exports_feb. If found, it drills through to the cube."

I am confused with the linewhere it states "Instead, the server interprets the file name as the name of a cube added to the root folder", what the root folder here means?

in my case the cube ("cube2")is not added to the root folder, but the Cube1 and Cube2 are in the same folder (physically and also on PPES)

sudhi

sudhi,
it means that the cubes need to be in the root of the PPES server and not within a folder, that is to say, directly under your server icon.

PS: Not that I wish to be rude, transgress the forum rules or in anyway discourage your (or others') postings, but what service & support does your reseller provide to assist you? I find that ours is able to answer queries and assist even faster than the forums. Given the high cost of licence and support, are you limiting yourself and your organisation to just the occasional CD update/grade?

i understood from ur last paragraph, u r taking abt the support from congos. but their response is no good compared to the response i get here in this forum.

No, I mean the support from whomever you bought your licence from, also known as the reseller or perhaps Vendor. As an example, flex13 on this forum is a reseller.
Cognos itself, whilst quick to supply the software, as you point out, can be slow to respond to questions and enhancement requests..... [wink]

lex,

the problem i got still remains. I updated both the cubes to the root (under the server) in PPES. published them.

the error remains same when i click the drill through button while browsing.
"Something unexpected has happened:
The request failed because there is no valid cube mapping to handle the request"

any other configurations needs to be checked?

sudhi,
can't think of anything to add to the pages in the pdf Enterprise Server Guide, other than making sure that the cube names (logical = actual) are as per the transformer definition, that you've updated the cubes in transformer and that the cube names don't contain any special characters.
I had the same problem until I realised that the cubes needed to be loaded at the root of PPES and not in as part of a folder.
To save going in and out of Upfront, there is a facility to Open with Browser in the Tools menu of PPESadmin to check whether the drill through is working.
that's all I can offer,

i got it. :)

hummmmmm while adding cube in the PPES, i entered the name differently, that was causing the problem. so the PPES looks for the name in PPES and NOT the actual file name.

many thanks.

sudhi

sudhi,
glad you got there. I guess the use of absolute names rather than pathways is meant to make things easier when swapping development and production environments, rather than confuse us!
