Has anyone ever configured CUBE to send calls over the internet (i.e. without SIP trunks)? If so, do you have a sample configuration to share?

The idea is calls go to a certain DID, which are redirected by the CUBE over the internet and then if the call is not answered, there is a SIP refer which transfers the call back.

I'm more curious to know if CUBE can do that.

Skype is a SIP call. But sure, as long as you can authenticate CUBE with the SIP service, all you need is an Internet connection.

This is an interesting conversation. So, a SIP service needs to be in play somewhere. I wonder if it could simply be the far end that is the service and authenticate against that.

Is skype a SIP call? I thought it was an internet voice call - best effort, no guarantee. Maybe skype for business is different.

Skype is SIP but it is best effort. Still needs a protocol to work. Where I am at we are running a lot of voice over SIP via a non MPLS connection.

Yep. We use 2 different carriers. You still need a carrier to provide the SIP service.
