CSV missing sub-report data

Hi
I'm running a billy-basic report from a helpdesk application database into a csv file that needs to be scheduled weekly but need the customer email address included, something the helpdesk DB does not contain. I have an Access DB with the emails included and can link it using the userID's - it seems that exporting to csv using sub-reports returns no data and have tried to incorporate the Access DB directly into the same report as a workaround, but again that fails to return the data.
Is there any way that 2 data sources can be used in the main report in this way to get around Crystal's CSV problems?

Just found a workaround, although not an ideal solution, but at least it requires no manual action once set up.

1 - Create an Access database that contains the UserID's and Email addresses in a table called 'Email'
2 - Schedule the Helpdesk database report (minus email) to save into a directory on the server in a CSV format file called 'CallsData.txt'. This will be overwritten each time the report refreshes.
3 - Make a link table in the Access database that points to 'CallsData.txt', and a query table that pulls all the data from this (I don't know why but link tables are unavailable in Crystal).
4 - Both data sets can now be combined into 1 report using a single Access datasource, and that final report can be scheduled to run some time after the 1st report to pick up the new data.

If anyone knows of a better solution (such as combining tables in 1 report to start with) then please let me know!

As an alternative, try to create a query in Access that uses the linked table and takes care of all the joins.

Then, create your report against that query (the query should show up in Crystal just like a table).

hth,
- Ido

CUT, Visual CUT, and DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

Another solution is to use my "Disk Output" UFL, which can build a file in the main report and subreport while the report is processing.

You will need to manually build the line up with it's own commas, but it works like a charm including data from both objects.

I'm confused here. I often link 2 or more different data sources together directly.

Example, I've just completed a report which links a Unix based data source with a Adaptive database, and an access lookup table, no Sub-Reports were used.

It probably doesn't work because you are using the native connection within Crystal Reports. When linking tables from different datasources you have to link using ODBC.

Create 2 ODBC connections for the tables you a re linking to and try creating the report again.

Let me know how you get on...
