I have a link on one of my web pages to a .csv (comma-separated values) file. It used to cause IE 5.5 to open up the file in MS Excel in the browser window, which is what I want it to do. For some reason it doesn't work that way any more. Now it just displays the file as if it were a normal text file. I don't think I changed anything that would make it do that. If I right-click on the link and select "properties" it shows that IE knows the file is a "Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values File". I checked the MS knowledge base and the only thing that seemed like it might apply told me to Open Explorer, go to "View/Folder Options/File Types", select that type, and uncheck the "Browse in same window" option. But that option is not only unchecked already, it's greyed out. The file type options are otherwise set up correctly: if I double click a .csv file on my local drive it opens in Excel like it should.

Any ideas? I'm really at a loss here!

Does for file type/Application to open with look like this -

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE\OFFICE\EXCEL.EXE" /e Dean Owen

Yes, it looks exactly like that. It also has the "Use DDE" option checked, and:
DDE Message:
Code:
[open("%1")]
Application: Excel
DDE Application Not Running:
Code:
[open("%1")]
Topic: system

Would you believe it...mines stopped working....i have exactly the same problem now!

I'm not that bothered, but I must have changed something when I was poking about. Sorry. I'm no use to you anymore... Dean Owen

Thanks for the help anyway. Stay tuned. If someone helps solve my problem, it should solve your (new) problem too.
