I have a customer with an existing Magix system. We will be adding a network switch via point to point T1. I have used Paradyne 3160's in the past to break out voice and data. Is there an easier solution. With the 3160's you need a router. Are there any solutions out there which would just allow us to plug into 10/100 switches using an ethernet cable?

pretty pricy, and i have never configured one. Are they pretty straight forward to configure?

Ghostin,

The 100INA boards do come with software for configuring them via your laptop etc. It helps and is somewhat intuitive if you can say that about an INA config. Avaya has had problems with these boards and we get them in regularly for repair - sometimes the CSU and sometimes the DSU functions fail on the board. Like many of Avaya's more technical board designs, they run pretty slick if you have all your bases covered - latest release of processor ... firmware updates flashed - service providers doing their job and the boards being configured to spec. Then they should work 100% of the time.

I recommend staying away from them unless you have a tech who is very capable and enjoys being the grand maestro in coordinating troubleshooting between the LEC/T-1 provider and possibly an ISP for the internet data side if they don't use the same vendor. It takes a special breed of tech with experience and necessary diagnostic equipment to install and maintain these over the long haul. It helps if they have a good relationship with the same LEC or T-1 provider's tech support team in the area.
