Its in this forum that I first saw it, and thats when specific keywords have an underline, and when you roll over them an advertisment pops up.

I dont want to use them to advertise, I would like to adopt it so that certain words on a website can be explained further.

Thanks Lee

p.s lol my question is how is it done.

Ok have looked into it a bit further, and it seems its all to do with intelliTXT by vibrant media.

I thought that maybe there was a washed down way of getting a simple box with text to appear, rather than an anim or video.

Is this true, or are vibrant holding the keys on this at the moment?

Thanks Vragabond, we both replied at the same time then...

Its a very nice option to have on sites, but I can see a time when these sorts of advertising will quickly become a nuisance and will probably be regarded as a type of adware.

The intelitxt / MSN livesearch is the most annoying thing on this site!

it serves no purpose other than to pee people off when they are trying to read / reply to post.

I assume TT get money for click throughs, I see no other reason why they would be using it, because it cetainly detracts from the overall experience on TT.

what AdBlock can stop a site displaying hidden , floating divs?

how does that work?

But to answer your question, it doesn't block DIV elements... it blocks the script that is used to load them.

Adblock isn't just designed to block ads - it can block anything that has a URL.

Ye I agree, but if used simply to offer an explanantion of words on a site, and isn't blatently advertising something, I think it add's good stickiness to a site, and is a good space saver.

so anyone using AdBlock to block those pesky pop-ups would also stop a site using AJAX and floating divs from working.

Hi

If the AJAX connects to a blacklisted URL, then yes. If the floating [tt]div[/tt] is created by a script loaded from a blacklisted URL, then yes. Otherwise no.

Feherke.

oh , ok thanks for clearing that up, i was worried it would arbitarily block any JS trying to display a hidden div!

Phew, I have one site that is AJAX driven (completely non-standards) and was a bit concerned!
