CSS link/visit/hover got me stumped

Hi.
I'm haveing real difficulties with link/hover/visited states using css in dw. I'm calling different ones so I can have different rollover states.

In when you roll over the links on the left the states just bold up and then return, and this is meant to happen whether the page has been visited or not. (And I know the thing's not finished - it's a work in progress). The css file is at
Now that's all well and good, but I'm stumped with a different site at which is meant to behave in virtually the same way (except not bold, red). The second link (Search database) works how I'd like them all to, as it links to a file that doesn't exist, but the others don't work - once you've gone to the next page, and back. they no longer go red on hover. Could someone have a look at this - it's got me tearing my hair out - and I haven't got much left to start with (50th last week).

You must declare link styles in the following order: link, visited, hover, active.
