Hi,
I have a page in which i a left menu for which i have give the left bullets a specific class.
like "leftnav"

left menu has
about
research
contact

The above will have submenu or bars like about will have setion like:
welcome
general
which would have htmls or dhtmls inside
Should assigning a subnav class make it work

I have defined a class for the main left menu that is about,research and contact.
I am not able to assign class to the submenu like welcome and general even if i assign the program doesn't point at that page..

eg: If it is welcome and file x.html so like should be
about/welcome/x.html

How does it know that the file is in about or welcome ???
Is provideing 2 class for each menu solve it ..I tried so but couldn't get through
Thanks,

Im not 100% sure I know what your asking for. But I think you asking to style a menu that has submenus?
Have you tried using the as UL's? Then in your CSS you can style both the:
#leftnav UL {}
#leftnav UL UL {} (nested list)
.. and their LI etc..

Im really not sure what your refering to with the file. It sound like you need to create a dynamic page. For example in ASP it would be something like:
<a href="index.asp?link=Welcome">
<% server.execute (link & ".asp") %>
