CS2 illustrator file open or save as wont work

so do I just have to delete settings.xml to get illustrator cs2 to work properly?
I hate not knowing what I am doing.....dont want to mess things up.

It didn't work. I removed settings.xml nothing changed. I trashed preferences nothing changed.
I cant work!!!!! HELP!

If you are using Mac, a security update in the past week screwed up Rosetta, required to run CS2 on Intel Macs. Check with Apple for a new update for their buggy update.
