Hi,

NOTE: This post has nothing to do with my other recently posted post "Prompt Values Don't Appear After Publishing". This post has to do with a totally different Cr Enterprise Server.

I am using CRV11 and hitting a Teradata database.

I developed a report with several prompts in it. And it works great in the CR Developer.

After I publish the report to CR Enterprise Server and run it I get a message:

CrystalReportsViewer
Services was not found.
Unable to retrieve object.
Service was not found.

Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this. NOTE: This is the first interactive report that I've attempted to run on this CR Enterprise Server. It is running a bunch of scheduled reports that output to Excel and PDFs without any problem.

Thanks in advance.

You need to set the database connections and the parameters for any report you publish.

Use the CMC.

I delted the report from CE and republished it with default database and prompt values from Developer.

Immediately logged into CE and on the database page and:
Selected Use customer database logon information specified here.
Set database driver to ODBC.
Set Server.
Set Database.
Set User.
Set Password.
Set Table prefix.
Set Use default table prefix.

Three options at bottom of the screen:
1) Prompt the user for database logon.
2) Use SSO content for database logon.
3) Use same database logon as when report is run.

3 was automatically selected. Left it at that.

Went to parameters and set everything to prompt on refresh.

Got the same messages again:

CrystalReportViewer
Service was not found.
Unable to retrieve Object.
Sevice was not found.

I've been looking all day for a solution.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Sounds like you need to update the report via the CMC.

Log into the CMC and locate the object. Click on the Process tab and click on the database section to update the database and logon information

All the reports I publish always have the table prefix field populated. I've never changed it. Went to but the dropdown box only has one item. Then I changed the radio button to "Specify a custom table prefix". Specified nothing - made no difference. Specified one - made no difference.

I went in and updated the report database settings. Made no difference.

*****************************************************

This is great. Steps below are ugly and long but I got the report to run once although incorrectly which is worthless.

Not knowing what to do or where to go I deleted the report, republished it, set my database parameters up again, turned on the prompt on refresh parameter checkbox for all prompts, cleared out all the current parameter values and started playing around. Here is what happened...

1) Logged out of all CR completely closed all browser windows.
2) Logged in via CMC as administrator - who I published the report as.
3) Went to objects and clicked on the report name which brought up the report settings page. I clicked on Schedule tab (I'm at: Home->Folders->User Folders->Adminstrator->ReportName->Shedule Tab.
4) I click on Schedule. The report attempts to run - I'm taken to the History tab where I see it fail. Message is: "Information is needed before this report can be processed".

QUESTION 1: Why didn't the report prompt me for parameters?

5) Went back to the History page and deleted the failed report instance.
6) Logged out of CMC.
7) Logged in via InfoView as Administrator and navigated to the Favorites folder.
8) Clicked on the report title to run it and got the messages that started all this:
CrystalReportViewer
Service was not found.
Unable to retrieve Object.
Sevice was not found.
9)Went back to the favorites fodler and clicked on Schedule below the report name. This took me to the Infoview Scheduler page. I expanded database and all settings were set except the password field was empty. NOTE: I ran this two times once filling in a password and once not. Both times I got the same message: "Information is needed before this report can be processed"

QUESTION 2: Again on both occassions why didn't the report prompt me for parameters?

9.5) Logged out of Infoview.
10) Logged into CMC as administrator. Went to the ReportName->Process parameters tab of the report. Manually set all the parameters.
11) Navigated to ReportName->Schedule and clicked on Schedule to run it now.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Per the history page the report ran succesfully
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12) Clicked on the report from history and viewed the data in a CR viewer. The report ran with the parameters I set.
13)Closed the viewing window - back at history page.
NOTE: Still logged in as CMC as adminstrator.
14) Went back to the schedule page and ran it again - hoping I would be prompted on refresh like my parameters are setup. Didn't work report ran succesfully again in history window.
15) Figured that its ran properly twice I'll try running it via Infoview. Logged out of CMC. Logged into Infoview.
16) Found the report under favorites and clicked on the report title. Same error messages that started all this::
CrystalReportViewer
Service was not found.
Unable to retrieve Object.
Sevice was not found.
17) Then I thought about when I had viewed the good runs of the report from the history tab in steps 11, 12 and 13 above. I remembered that in that viewer window I saw a refresh button.
18 Even though I'm in Infoview now and not CMC I navigated to the reports history page (from the Object list page).
19) Saw the two historical successful runs and clicked on one to view it. Couldn't view the good historical runs from Infoview. Got the same messages that started all this:
CrystalReportViewer
Service was not found.
Unable to retrieve Object.
Sevice was not found.
20) Logged back in via CMC and navigated to the reports history page. Clicked on the same historcal run and the results displayed in a viewer !!!!! NOTE !!!!! With the refresh button I mentioned back in step 17.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
21) I clicked the refresh button and wouldn't you now it the prompts came up. I filled them in and the report ran like I wanted it to. Of course this is from the viewer and I have no history of this run. And obviously not working properly.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUESTION 3: Why would the only place be that I can run the report and have it prompt me be from a viewer window that's displaying a historical instances data.

OBSERVATIONS:
1) Seems like when I populated the prompts from the parameter page the report finally ran correctly. Although it didn't prompt like it was supposed to.
2) Common theme is nothing works from Infoview.
3) Unless the report parameters are populated you can get a good run out of CMC - wont' prompt.
4) If the report was running correctly I would like it to clear the parameters out each time a user runs it. I assume that's done by checking the checkbox "Clear the current parameter values" on the parameters tab. I didn't even bother playing with that.

Any thoughts on this now?

Thanks.

Regarding my post above....

I published the same report to another server, set the database connection, set the parameters to prompt on refresh. Logged out of CMC and logged into Infoview. Went to the object list and clicked the report title. Report prompted me and ran fine.

Something is wrong with the server I've been working with. Both instances of CRE were setup exactly the same - I installed them. Something may have changed in the Windows environment - unfortunately I don't actually own the servers.

Anyone have any clues on a good approach or have a checklist for checking for differences between two servers with instances of CRE on them. A checklist of things / services critical to CRE.

Thanks.

Take an axe to the one that isn't working correctly and sqarsh any bugs you see ;)

Reinstall the server, there are far too many possibilities for me to guess at.

Thought I'd hear something like that. One last question...

Do you know if its at all possible to reinstall a portion of the CRE server so I don't trash the 50+ reports I have automatically running on this thing? Anotherwards reinstall the CRE application server portions without destroying the published/scheduled reports.

Thanks for ALL your help.

Hi,
I believe that if you use the same database for the CMS and retain the same Input/Output FRS locations, it should retain your published info ( not sure though, and really not sure about scheduled instances - I seem to recall that an option is provided to reset the database, which implies that you can leave it as is..) ..

Also, a report run as a scheduled instance will NEVER prompt for parameter input, it will just fail..( Logical, since it is intended to run without user intervention)-the
CMC will prompt for parameters if you run from the Preview button, not the schedule tab..
