Hi Folks

Looking for some advice -- when I recently upgraded my Crystal XI Developer to rev 2, something didn't go right. The program seems to work all right, but every time I start it up it tries to install a version of Java. This takes about 2-3 minutes to fail every time, which is very annoying. Worse yet, I am plagued with the same problem every time I try to work in VB6, almost every form loaded or displayed seems to try to restart this install.

I actually got and installed the exact version of Java on my PC in the hope that the install would see it and finally stop trying but to no avail. I also tried deleting / moving the directory Crystal is looking in for these files, which didn't help, just made things worse.

Please help! Is there any way I can exorcise this ghost from my machine! Thanks!

I'm going to assume by now that you figured out to uninstall and then re-install Crystal.
I had that same problem and it almost drove me crazy.
I came upon the 'solution' through sheer frustration (and a little bit of 'a reboot always fixes the problem').

Well, I finally managed to fix the problem. The one thing I can suggest (seemed to work for me, but I'm not sure it was the actual fix) is to make sure you do NOT install any of the CR XI service packs before trying to install CR XI Release 2. Once I went from release 1 directly to release 2 everything worked properly.

Best of luck

Hi,
Be careful with the Service Packs ( and MHF and CHF patches) be SURE they are for R2 and not the original R1 of BOEXI..Using the wrong ones is essentially an unrecoverable error and will require a uninstall/install again sequence ( and given how long it takes, you really want to avoid that!)..

The BOE support site is not always clear about the exact version things are for..

Thanks Turkbear, I'll keep that in mind.
