Hello,

We want to connect to an Oracle DB. We can either use "ODBC" or "Oracle Server".

On some PC's that have the Crystal XI Client loaded when a user clicks on "Oracle Server" they do not get the dialog box to enter Service Name, user, Password. Hence they cannot use the native drivers.

On My machine when I press Oracle Server I get the dialog box.

Do I need to install another piece of software to allow these users to use the "Oracle Server" connection?

Thanks.

If you want to use the Native driver you will need to install the Oracle Client.

Then in the TNS file add the name of the server.

On your pc you should see either in Programs or root of C
Oracle -> Orahome-> network -> admin ->tnsnames.ora

The PC's in question can already connect to Oracle via SQLPLUS does not that mean that the Oracle client is indeed already installed? Is there a specific component of the Oracle client that needs to be installed?

Thanks for your time.

May be SQL PLus uses an ODBC connection. Sorry not an Oracle expert, just know I have to have Oracle client installed to use Native Driver.

Ian

No, sql plus uses the same 'native' connection type you can use via crystal reports.
Sometimes if you don't have the Oracle Client installed first, the drivers for crystal to connect to Oracle don't get auto installed. You can uninstall and reinstall crystal.

(if you open a blank report, within 'create new data connection' do you see Oracle Server listed?)
