I am a crystal expert and my company is planning to implement cognos Reportnet in few places.

I did not find any download evaluation of Reportnet, but i was reading on the tool quite a bit.

I found that Crystal and Cognos have quite a bit of similarities.

Crystal ReportNet
-------------------------------------------
Business ViewManager FrameWork Manager
ADHOC Query Studio
Report Designer Report Studio

Having said that i read that Report Studio in Cognos is Zero client surprises me.I wonder how could it give the report desinger tool capability without even launching an applet or activeX?
Can anybody has any clue, behind the scenes of Report Studio?
And i also winder how slick and fast is the tool?

Crystal has a very good Java and .Net SDK's does ReportNet has that.
You can vertually do anything with crystal SDK, is the ReportNet SDK does that?

Thanks in advance

Cognos has always said they are zero footprint client, but require a web browser and Adobe Acrobat reader.

Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side because there is more manure there - original.

ReportNet doesnot use any activex or java components. instead it stores the reports as xml. the designed report stored in xml format.

reportnet got sdk for java (, servlet, jsp) and VB (,ASP), I am not sure about .NET.

You can to "anything" with reportnet just as Crystal I believe. Only one advantage i can see with crystal is we got windows based designer tool also, reportnet, fully browser dependent which sometimes users (like me) find frustrating while designing big big reports (due to slow performance).

regards,
sudhi
