I need help troubleshooting database connection error with Crystal Server 2008.

Situation: We currently run Crystal Enterprise 10 on another server and installed Crystal Server 2008 on a seperate server.

We migrated a couple of reports from 10 and successfully ran them in Crystal Designer 2008.

Problem: When running the same reports that successfully ran in Crystal Designer 2008 in Crystal Server 2008 I get Error in File (~tmp random file name .rpt): Error connecting to database.

What I've done so far:
1. Checked and compared DSN settings with CE10 server (correct)
2. Double checked data dictionary and path location (correct)
3. Called BOBJ support "We don't support that database." I tried to get them to answer why it runs in Crystal Reports Designer 2008 and not in Enterprise and kept getting the same answer "We don't support that database." (Failed)

Enviroment: Crystal Server 2008 & Crystal Reports Designer 2008 installed on (windows server 2003)HP DL360 G3 connecting to the database (Faircom C-Tree Plus)on a seperate server via mapped drive.

So now I'm left to troubleshoot it myself and hopefully someone here can help provide some troubleshooting tips or ideas.

Just coming up with a couple of random thoughts here,, Have you check the login, to your database. I would assume so, talking about user name and password. I have seen connect problems, come because of a slow ODBC connection. When my SQL 2005 system becomes slow, then the ODBC driver, which is slower than an API,, becomes very slow. I ran into a connect problem when I first setup our CRystal (not 2008), because I did not establish a separate sql login. Just ideas, nothing more

What is the database that you are connecting to - what is the ODBC name you are using...?

Is the mapped-drive available to the CR 2008 SERVER...?

Normally, mapped drives are not available.

You need to use an explicit UNC path and run all the Services under a NETWORK ACCOUNT that has access to that remote server.

We're using FairCom ODBC Driver 3.13.10.31.

The database is stored out on our SAN so I'll make it a local drive and see if that resolves the issue.

I'll be back to update the post.

Changing from a mapped drive to a local drive resolved this issue. Now that reports are running I'm working through one particular issue with Print Engine Error.

Thanks for your help MJRBIM! If you have any insight on trouble shooting Print Engine Errors let me know. If not I can certainly start another thread.

A little bit more info on the Print Engine Error, report runs for about 30 mins and I assume it gets to the print part of the report and then errors out. Its not much to go on but its all I got.

I would suggest you start a new thread about the Print Engine Error.
