Hello,

*Our company plans to share crystal reports via a crystal runtime client that connects through an ODBC connection to a SQL server.

*Our current solution is web based and does not rely on an ODBC connection.

*When we develop the report each developer has a local ODBC connection.

*ERP tech support suggested that we set up the ODBC connection on the server.

Question - When developing can we direct the Crystal Report to utilize the ODBC connection on the server?

Thanks for any assistance!

Jillp

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to do this. However, if you make sure that the ODBC connection has the same exact name EVERYWHERE - the server, each developer's workstation, etc. - then it should be ok. Also, use the 32-bit ODBC administrator to set up the connection on the Developers' workstations. For the server, you'll use a 32-bit connection if your application is deployed as 32-bit, or a 64-bit connection if it's deployed as 64-bit.

Thanks for your reply.

Is it your belief that we will be required to set up an ODBC connection at each user workstation in order for user to run crystal reports through crystal runtime, or will the ODBC connection on the server handle this?

Thanks again,

Jill

That depends on where the report is running. If it's running through a web application, then you'll just need it on the server. If it will be running on the user's workstation, then it will have to be there.
