I am using Crystal Enterprise 10.5. Now want to update that to Business Objects XI release 2. I have reports which run each day and I keep history for few months. I was wondering if I move/migrate all reports to new server how I maintain the repository. Day 1 in my new server my user should see history for all reports. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,
as long as you migrate the CMS Database carefully all the History info should be retained...When doing the Import of the Objects ( if not automatic..It has been awhile since I moved versions and I usually installed the new version on a Clean server and used the Import wizard to get the old versions objects, etc) all the instances should be imported.

Hi,
Yes, you can choose to import users, groups and rights..

Take a look at the BOE Admin guide ( Which you should have as part of your installation,but are here as well:
)

for more details on the Import wizard and the CMS Migration Steps

Can we do incremental repository import? Let say today I do once and then again next wed day I will do again. Next time it will only add which are missing. Please let me know.

Hi,
The import tool, I believe ( it has been a while) has options about what to do with existing objects in the target repository. You can also select individual objects to import not just all of a given type, so if you know which ones are missing you can select only those to import.

The import tool does give you options about what to do when there are duplicate items - overwrite the destination with the source or keep the destination. In order for this to work correctly, you need to select the option to use the internal ID instead of the name to determine duplicates.

Also, in order to import instances you need to check the box next to something like "Include Instances" (I'm not sure of the exact wording) that appears belows the folder and object list when you're selecting files to import. If you have a LOT of reports or instances (from experience, over 1,000), you may want to import in sets instead of trying to import the whole thing. Depending on the version of BO XI, the Import Wizard is more likely to have errors when you try to import large numbers of objects - especially if you use .biar files instead of importing from one system directly to another.
