Hi all,

I am new to Crystal reports, earlier i worked on webfocus & brio. We are working on a project with BO XI and require to use crystla reports XI for preparing standard reports.
Our requirement is user should be able to access CR reports from web using IE. I have few basic questions on this.

1) What is front-end for crystal reports i.e, when we develop a CR report how does user access it?
2) Is it possible to invoke CR reprot from ASP or JSP pages. The page will contain set of text boxes, combo boxes for selecting input criteria by the user. If yes, how can we invoke?
3) Apart from universe as source data, is it possible to have set of tables & joins to prepare report?

Appreciate your help on this.

Thanks
Ravi

1) There are several ways to accomplish this, Crystal Enterprise, WEB Server, use the RDC, 3rd party products, etc.

2) Sure, and with Crystal Enterprise they have a bastardized form of ASP called CSP which you can also use. This depends upon which edition of Crystal you have.

3) Yes, you can use any ODBC/JDBC or OLE DB data source, as well as native connectivity to Oracle, SQL Server and many other databases.

There's an interface for joining tables and Crystal will pass SQL to the database based upon your record selection formulas. Or you can use SPs/Views on the database (which most prefer), or you can even paste in SQL as the datasource in what's termed a Command Object (use add command).

Hi,

Thanks for your response. We are planning to use Crystal Reports XI. Can you pls let us know is it possible (using CR XI) to have JSP as front end & invoke a crystal areport from a JSP and produce the reprot based on user selection.

Thanks
Ravi
