Crystal Reports XI Server: Cannot View Any Reports

I have recently installed (and reinstalled) Crystal Reports XI Server and cannot view reports (either on demand or scheduled instances).

When I attempt to view any report from the InfoView application I get the following error in the frame:

Unable to retrieve Object.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

When I try to "preview" a report or view a historical intance from the CMC a new browser window opens but nothing displays in the window.

These problems occur with both the DHTML and ActiveX viewers.

This error occurs when I am viewing any of the sample reports or a report written against our Oracle DB.

I can schedule an instance of any report and it runs to success.

The Crystal Reports XI Server is configured as follows:

- Server: Windows 2003 Server Std Ed
- App Server: IIS 6.0 + .NET
- CMS DB: MS SQL on separate server
- Authentication: Windows Active Directory with SSO
(BO SSO/AD hot fixes applied as required)
- All CR Services running under a domain admin account.

I am not sure why the reports are not able to be viewed and would appreciate any suggestions from the group.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Hi,
Check to be sure the Virtual directories for the viewers are correctly set. It seems like the Viewer object is not being created correctly..almost any other problem ( with the services themselves, for instance) would likely prevent the scheduled report from running to completion, so I suspect the viewer's configuration is at fault somehow...
Note: I have not used XI so my thoughts are based on what could be causing that problem in V10 - I think it is similar, however..

I encountered the exact same problem, but didn't figure out yet. SteveRemington, Have you resolved this? If yes, would you share with me?

BO Tech Support has advised me that this is being caused by a problem with the latest Weekly Hot Fix (comonXI_win_en), saying:

"This can be reolved by rolling the hotfix back or by copying an older version of CeReportSource.dll than
11.0.0.1387 (this is the one with problems) into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\bin and re-registering the dll."

I have replaced the dll with an older version and that action does fix the dhtml viewer, but in my case not the activex or java viewers.

I am hoping that the next weekly hot fix will correct this.

I suggest that you also confirm this with tech support and test in a development environment prior to applying any changes to your production system.

Malcom,

I just tried restoring (taking away commonXI_win_en) and still have the same problem :( ... Even after the reboot! I'm back to only having the Advanced DHTML as the only viewer working.

Any other info from any one would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Robert

Robert,

I have just learned that there is a fixed (commonXI_win_en)hot fix now available.

Downloaded it late yesterday but I have not had a chance to istall yet. The documentation specifically refers to the problem being corrected.

Hope all goes well for you.

Regards,

Malcolm.
