I have no previous experience but require assistance with a problem at work that needs resolving.

I have needed to build a report from scratch.

I have designed and can view data at a field level.

However when I go to Preview I see no data.

Is there anyone out there who can help?

Have you been using the Report Wizard? Useful when you are starting out.

For what you have, choose Report > Selection Formulas > Record, see what rules you have. Probably these are not what you intended, and they can be changed.

Sometimes it is also useful to use Database > Slow SQL Query (assuming you have SQL). This will show at least some of your selection rules, those that have been translated into SQL, and will therefore be performed by the server rather than your machine.

Thanks for the ideas,

I do use the wizard yes. I select the link fields as well as the ones I wish to report.

I've tried what you say but it's not really meaning anything to me.

The sql relational databse exports a file as an mdb, however I should point out it is a format of Raisers Edge. The export is run over a sql query to gather the data.
It is a simple crystal report that just doesn't want to preview my data.

Its upsetting because if I export from Raisers Edge to a csv file instead I can view all the data.

Any more thoughts

What do you mean by this:
I have designed and can view data at a field level.
Do you mean in design mode? What section are the fields in (look at the gray area to the left to see what section). Is the section grayed out in design mode?

On the preview tab I can use the option to view data in the fields.

I have restarted building a report again from scratch. This time I have ensured I have selected the fields in the record selection. Unfortunately I've had to leave it for today as I am getting an error panel displayed, something about text end not described. I will add the error to the thread tomorrow.

I used raisers edge with CR XI very briefly. If I remember correctly it makes you set up the Access database within the application. I guess i'm asking if you are sure you are setting that up right.

You could open access and look at the tables to make sure there is data in them.

The live version of this report appears to date back to access 95. Do you think I should convert it to Access2000
