Has anyone experienced this?

Crystal 9 Pro
Various Data Sources (Oracle 8, SQL)
Excel 2000 / Excel 2003 / Excel Mac 2004

When exporting data from Crystal Reports (both through the client and Crystal Enterprise) I have noticed odd and even troubling behavior when opening the file on a Mac.

The dates are typically "Wrong" by about 4-5 years. I can take the same file and open it on a windows pc with either Excel 2000 or 2003 (and I assume Excel XP or 2002 would be fine as well) and the dates are correct. However, take that same file and open it in Excel 2004 for Mac and the dates are incorrect. This only appears to happen with files created through Crystal Reports' export dll. I know this because any file created in excel on the PC side and populated with dates (even dates copied from the file generated by Crystal) and passed to the Mac and opened are fine.

Any ideas?

You can try applying the service packs of course, but there are lots of anomalies associated with Crystal exporting.

I've not heard of this, I guess a workaround might be to export in another format, such as character delimited if you just need the data, or Word or RTF and see how that works.

Also, it may be that if you alter the format of the date in CR it will work.

Hi,
I suspect ( this is just that, a suspicion) that the base formula for computing a date from its internal representation ( it is not stored as an 'actual' date in most databases)differs betwen Windows and Macs..The direct export from Crystal to Excel sends the internal date representation which is then interpreted by Excel based on its' OS's method..

Once in Excel ( like the PC to Mac transfer after exporting) - it is 'fixed' and the move to Mac will not reinterpret it..
