Does anyone know Crystal Reports Server? This is not the same as Crystal Enterprise (or so I am told). I could not find a forum for Crystal Reports Server, so I am posting here.

Crystal Reports Server allows you to easily publish reports on the web. I have a customer with a commissions due report. They do not want sales rep A to be able to see sales rep B's report, and vice versa. I am trying to figure out how to have ONE commissions report, and then by virtue of the user name logging into Crystal Reports Server, pass a different record selection formula to the crystal report. My alternative is to have 30 different crystal reports, which I would like to avoid.

Any insights appreciated.

I haven't played around with CR Server, but I expect that it is just a stripped-down version of CE.

In CE you can create a data selection formula that lets you select data by the "CE User Name" if that name matches the field in your database.

Eg. If the Sales Rep ID in your DB is "SmithJ", then your CE USER NAME would also need to be "SmithJ".

CurrentCEUserID = {Table.Field}

CR Server is another version of BOE.
The differences really come down to the licensing, which controls what you can do.
The main differences that I know about is that you are limited to installing all CR server components onto one server so you can't scale horizontally, and 20 can purchase a max of 20 cals.

As far as your specific case with your client, you should look at Business Views, which will be installed with CR Server.
When you create the BV's, you can create filters, that you apply rights to that filter based upon a Group or User that exists in CR Server.

Brian is correct that the restriction with CRS is the maximum of 20 CALs and it can only sit on one server.

But another issue to take into account for your client is that the money they spend on the licenses for upto 20 CALs cannot then be cashed in if they wanted to upgrade to Business Objects Enterprise Professional for more than 20 CALs or if they wanted to even go to the Premium edition and use all other content such as WebI Intelligence, Live Office etc
