Crystal Reports for JD Edwards 1

Hi,
I want to use crystal reports instead of JD ERW. How should I integrate these two. Any technical references or pieces of advice and direction how to go about this.

Jd Edward's has certified CR 8.5 and JD Edward's Open Data Access (ODA) driver for reporting.

If you have Xe you will need a fat client install to use the ODA. If your comfortable with the JDE Database schema, you could use a combination of Cr drivers and client access drivers to connect to the data source.

If security and user access is an issue than you should consider CR 8.5 and CE 8.5. This approach will probably require addition hardware costs and CE user licensing costs. CR 8.5 comes with five standard CE seats but no security.

Oh, CR RDC gives you the ability to design a stand alone system to deploy reports to users.

I regularly use CR 9 to develop JDE OW reporting using an ODBC connection to the database (SQL Server 2000). We use an ASP (with a Citrix desktop) to access OneWorld.

Report writing is a great excercise to improve your SQL knowledge. For the most part, I use the Command feature of CR 9, writing my own queries. I found that using the CR 9 wizard often resulted in long processing time. I try to do the bulk of the processing on the server for summaries and grouping.

We use Crystal Reports to access our JDEdwards database. We are using Xe SP 17. To access the cryptic JDE data you need to use the ODA driver. When a Fat Client is installed on the PC in the System DSN, you will see an entry for OneWorld ODA. If you use the settings you can select to view different types of data. The ODA driver is good until you jump JDE service packs which update the ODA driver version. Right now we have ODA version 1.63. At times Crystal will want to remap the fields on the report if the ODA version changes.

) their One World drivers are faster retrieving data for crystal then the ODA drivers.

jdeDirect drivers also translates table names and column names into plain english.
