Does anyone know if Crystal reports is the best way to develop a report taking information out of our existing Peach Tree Complete 2005 Accounting system, or is there another program that might be better?

I am in need of having the ability to track open and closed orders and developing some way to enter commissions that are still due against an open order, or paid to an IC on orders that we have been paid on (closed orders).

I need to be able to view the sell amount not including frt or sales tax.
I need to be able to split off to addn'l salesmen, if there is a split commission on the job, because of territory or purchase order credit. We do not pay on a percentage basis, but on a profit basis, and that differs, by inside, and outside sales reps. We have two salesmen that get commission, after they reach a certain dollar amount in sales. Anything over that they get a percentage of profit.
Sometimes orders can take as long as three years to comlete, muni jobs and others.
We do not stock items, we drop ship, as we are a mfg rep firm. Most orders are custom to each client. We rep and sell as many as 60 different product lines, with full catalogs from all. Any suggestions?
I thought of trying Crystal reports, but I'm not sure. We are a small company, and just bounching back after 2001, and I want to keep expenses down to a minimum. I might add that we have been using Peach Tree for the last seven years and it works great except for the commission side. I have been using an old database program that I had help design with computer specialist. Any help appreciated.

Crystal will absolutely work for your situation. It is (some what) easy to learn, and has very powerful formula abilities. Split comissions and the conditions of payment can also be handeled.

HOWEVER! I do not know Peachtree, and cannot say if the data you need to calculate this items from are stored within. If so, then yes, you should consider Crystal. BUT ( and a big but here!) if the data is not coming out of Peachtree then you will not get the results you seek.

Another consideration may be an Access database, with forms and tracking capabilities. A bit more complex than Crystal, but Access has reporting abilities and also can 'pull' data from external source.
I apologize for the vague reply, but as I said, I do not know what Peachtree has to offer. Is it a database program, or only an accounting package? That is the question!

Thank you Bob....I have used access, and have been to a few classes designing databases with access. I understand your question about Peachtree. Peachtree is an accounting package very similar to quick books pro. It has most of what I need, but not all of what I need. It doesn't have fields for my commissions, or commission splits. It also doesn't have fields for more than one sales rep. But perhaps something can be done with Crystal reports that will allow me to add to the data I can pull from peachtree.
Thanks! Judy
