crystal reports 9 exporting to html4 format

I have a database field on a report. The size of the report field is not as long as the database field. When I preview in the crystal designer preview . . . it truncates the field correctly on the report. When I export the report to html4 format . . . it puts the total field value on the report by adding a line below . . .

I need the html format to truncate the field like crystal. I have downloaded all the patches and updates, etc. Can someone please advise me about this?

Create a formula and manually truncate the field, as in:

left({table.field},40)

This will truncate after the first 40 characters, adjust as required.
