Hi,

We've recently upgraded to GM6.5 from 5.5 and it's been a nightmare. There seems to be a lot of bugs and inconsistencies in this version that have meant a lot of operational problems and workarounds for our 45+ users.

Our biggest problem is printing/exporting a couple of crystal reports to word. As the user clicks on the print icon or export icon the PC often crashes and requires a restart. This often happens but not always.

I'm told GM6.5 only supports CR9 so I've saved the reports in CR9 format, and put some CR9 DLLs onto the workstations in accordance with instruction from Frontrange and my reseller.

However, I cannot determine exactly what DLLs I need and where to put them to get the export to work. I figure I need "U2DDISK.DLL" and "U2FWORDW.DLL" but I just cant get them to work.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Johnny,

The GoldMine 6.5 build you MUST be on is 6.5.40321 previous builds had SQL locking issues.

GoldMine 6.5 works with 7+ for Crystal. The easiest way to get it working is to copy all of the DLLs from the C:\Windows\Crystal directory from a machine that has the writer installed.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi Richard, and thanks for your advice.

I've tried your suggestion, and when we click on the CR viewer export icon nothing happens. I'm trying this out on a fresh W2K installation, with CR 7.0 fully installed. I've saved a test report in CR7 format, and the \winnt\crystal folder has got u2ddisk and u2wordw dlls in it.

What's going on?

Thanks again.
John

John,

Place the DLLs in the GoldMine directory.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

We're getting there...

On my clean Win2K installation I have now got what seems to be a stable system.

Your suggestions worked (thanks very much) but the system still seems to crash when using one of the reports on a particular contact - but I think this is a different problem.

Thanks again.
John

UPDATE.

Yep, it was a slightly different problem.

The report uses cal.notes and seems to sometimes object to translating the html code for this field. If I set paragraph formatting for the report field to "none" the report works every time; if I set it to RTF or HTML it will often (but not always) crash.

My preferred solution would be to make the cal.notes field plain text and not html. Is this possible? I have set HTML_CAL_NOTES=0 in GM.INI but this will not change the underlying data format. or will it all need to be rewritten in CR9 to get HTML compatibility.

Help (again) is very much appreciated.

Regards
John

John,

Its not going to retrospectively go through all of them, you'd have to edit them.

However in the format field option in Crystal you can set it to read the text as HTML.

Regards,

Richard.
