I have some legacy reports on CR 8 web component and we upgraded a couple of machines in our office to Windows 7. Unfortunately, windows 7 won't load the active x viewer. Are there any workarounds to get a windows 7 machine to work with CR 8 web component?

Hi,
The security settings in W7 are much stricter than in previous versions..Have you tried accessing the reports using the administrator account on those PCs?

An ActiveX viewer has always presented an issue with Windows since to initially load it uses the SYSTEM32 folder, a very limited access folder.

I'll give it a shot to see if that works, but I don't think our IT admins will allow the users administrator access to the machine.

Hi,
Probably not, but once it is run once and installed, it does not need that anymore - we had to run it for each user as admins ( or, in those days,pre-7 as a Power User)

Try one of the other non-ActiveX viewers here:

With Administrator access, the following problem occurred when trying to load crystals viewer:

activexviewer.cab, unknown publisher popup box.

Then, after hitting ok, the following pops up:

The Seagate Software ActiveX Viewer in unable to create it's resource objects. To rectify this problem, please install Internet Explorer 4.0 or install DCOM for Windows 95 and the latest Microsoft Scripting Engine. These files are available at Microsoft's web site.

I would like to keep the workarounds to a minimum. Any thoughts on how to get this to work?

TIA

Hi,
The only time I have sen that is when there are permissions issues..Are you using the actual Windows 7 administrator account ( not just an administrative users account)

See here for details on this W7 ( and Vista) special account:
